Question 2 Evaluation

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I feel as though my products are pretty effective as they have a sense of continuity, not only from colour scheme and characters but also details such as using a consistent font throughout
. I chose to use a san serif font as it is a modern and sharp font. I also ensured that the protagonist had the same costume throughout the production process of all texts. By having all texts work effectively they can then be marketed effectively.

Here are some examples showing similarities between my products:
As you can see in terms of colouring, there is a blue natural tint throughout. This was done to signify the teleporting effect that I had included within the product. The outfit is also consistent throughout each product, this gives a sense of continuity and a professional standard. The only thing that is not completely consistent is the title on the film trailer, however it is still somewhat similar and looks effective as the release date is in a similar font.
When creating my main product I chose follow the traditional marketing scheme of trailers. I did this by releasing the trailer for the teaser trailer. This is often consisting of around 30 seconds. I then released a teaser trailer conventionally lasts for around 1 minute and 30 seconds. And finally the official trailer lasting for around 2 minute 30 seconds.

Since my products target audience is teenagers I decided to conduct a small survey consisting of 12 people of mixed gender from my target demographic to help further my research and clarify my decision for my products.
Based on the results from my audience feedback I found that the majority of people I asked agreed that the combination of my main product and ancillary texts are effective and have clear link between them. A notable response to my products was the genre that my products portrayed as the feedback shows it is unclear. However I purposely composed the products to have a thriller, mystery about it and used small details and signifier to connote the genre. For example the staggered locations and the various lines of a different location in the background is featured on the poster. This does visually represent the fact of the subject in various locations, therefore relating to teleportation which is a science fiction based plot. The magazine cover shows the subject distorted and in various places as there is a staggered main image, this signifies how the subject is not in focus and in various places, hence teleporting. The trailer only establishes the genre towards the end of the trailer when the subject teleports, however the lighting, shots and narration does suggest the genre it is not confirmed.
All of the feedback says that my products have a clear connection. I feel as though this is evident due to the use of colouring and costume between each product. One of the members of the audience feedback did however mention the title of the film trailer could have used the same font used within the ancillary products. I agree however feel as though the release date fits the font type and works well as it is.
The respondents said that the use of colour and saturation was the most recognisable feature within my texts as they each use a very similar hue and maintain a specific mood and tone. The final question within the questionnaire asks what improvements I could make to make the link more evident. The majority all agreed that the only thing that would make it clearer is to use the same title used on the poster and magazine cover at the end of the trailers.

In conclusion, I feel as though the combination of each ancillary texts are very effective and achieve there purpose of clearly representing and promoting my final product. Although there are very few elements that could be improved within my products I feel as though final outcome of each product is very effective and looks both conventional and professional.

Evaluation Question 1

Location Report

Location One: Home

The images above show the various rooms that I used within my home for the use of my product. I chose this location as both an establishing point of the character as well as the film. By seeing the protagonists surroundings and life style the viewer would base an opinion of the character through the various props through connotation and representation. I chose the bedroom as it is a fairly basic and conventional layout that you would expect any young adult to have. The simple minimalist blue bed sheets automatically enforce the characters gender. The gloss black and white drawers suggest a modern environment  as they are too have a minimalist style too them. The postmodern style is becoming more popular within home decor as it is very post modern. The layout on the drawer is very messy and so are the clothes on the floor as this suggests the protagonist is a teenager due to the messy nature.
The next scene briefly features the landing, I chose to use this briefly as the wallpaper is fairly vivid and has a pattern that could distract the viewer. I plan to track downstairs straight from the bedroom to give a sense of continuity as appose of a jump cut.
The living room is then featured, the dark bottle green chair works really well with the black-out blinds and flat screen television as it gives a sense of relaxation and a room that is often used considering the devices within it. I re-positioned the arm chair so it was more central to the television and moved the glass desk in order to make room for various cans and bottles of liquor. By having it close buy it would give the sense of it been frequently used and in this case, for alcohol.
The kitchen is very modern featuring various cooking utensils and devices as well as gloss black cabinets and a dark marble floor with a textured counter top. This room is also very well lit as it has various (three) windows each with blinds so it can contrast the dark setting established in the room prior.
Next is the garage, I chose to use the garage opposite the house as it is connected to various other garages which clearly shows the audience of where they are as alternatively using the garage in the garden and using the side door.
Location Two: Wyke Sixth Form College
The benefit of using such a large building during the holiday season means that there will not be very many people that could potentially walk into the shot and disrupt the verisimilitude. Also the entrance to the college leads to a large open plan building which will be very effective for my product as appose to a confined corridor space that is unclear and does not connotes the school like setting I hope to portray. As well as this there are a number of classrooms that I can use and each of them will be essentially empty meaning it is more practical and fortunate for the scenes I hope to include. Fortunately the classroom that I have chosen includes the various items one would expect to find within a classroom. For example the white board, bookshelf, worksheets as well as students examples.
Location Three: Generic Street
I had hope to find a generic street that has various turns and alleyways so that one can stand behind and establish a sense of misdirection. Fortunately there is one very near the college so it was very practical for what I wanted. However the downside to such a location is that it is populated by various people so in order to get certain shots I will need to be patient.
Location Four: The Deep
I simply plan to use this location for the various change of scenery that it has facing each direction. The actual attraction is facing the sea slightly to the right there is a bridge, to the right of that there is various factory buildings and to the left of the deep there is a backdrop of greenery. I plan to use each of these various backdrops for brief moments within my films as they are very diverse in terms of setting. Great for teleporting as it would give the sense of various locations.
Location Five: Hovis Mill
There is an abandoned Hovis Mill on the outskirts of the city center down St Andrew Street, the area features a range of street art and general graffiti as well as damage from various others. The area featured a whole number of open buildings abandoned and damaged. There is a lot of broken windows and glass on the ground as well as a number of other various trash and burnt items. The area is relatively desolate and empty ideal for filming and giving a significant change to scenery. The area has a large courtyard which is great for filming as I can use a lot of natural light without having to use lighting equipment also it will not take away from the rest of the scenery.
